Question: Some of the soldiers raise their index and middle finger taking the form of the [Arabic] number seven (“V”) as a sign of victory. What is the ruling regarding that? Is it not better that we raise the index finger [alone] as a sign for [the tawḥīd of] al-Wāhid al-Qahhār, along with [uttering] the takbīr?
Response: No doubt this is better. We praise Allāh, whether with the [single] finger or the full hand. We say “alḥamdulillāh” for victory, alḥamdulillāh.
However, if this [raising of the fingers in a “V” for victory sign] is well known [and established] amongst the people and the countries, then I do not see any harm in making a sign with it.

السؤال: يرفع بعض الجنود إصبعيه السبابة و الوسطى على هيئة رقم سبعة رمزاً للانتصار. ما حكم ذلك؟ أ ليس من الأولى أن نرفع السبابة إشارة للواحد القهار مع التكبير؟
الجواب: هذا لا شك أنه الأولى. إننا نحمد الله سواء كان بالإصبع أو اليد كلها، نقول الحمد لله على الانتصار الحمد لله، لكن إذا كانت هذه معروفة بين الناس و بين الدول فلا أرى مانعاً من الإشارة بها.
