I received two messages via WhatsApp suggesting people to perform some simple actions and statements in the last ten nights of Ramadhan. I felt that this is actually counter-productive to striving hard in these days. My suspicion was proven correct when I overheard people saying: “alhamdulillah, I will give one Riyaal tonight” or “I will recite Soorah Al-Ikhlaas tonight” etc…
So I wrote the following words as a form of sincere advice to clarify the issue, perhaps Allah will make it an avenue of benefit:
A warning against some messages which encourage small deeds during the last ten days
In these days a number of messages are spread suggesting that a Muslim does a very small action in the las ten days such as donating one Riyaal or reciting Soorah Al-Ikhlaas, or saying a particular statement of Dhikr. The thinking behind this is that if one of these small actions coincides with Laylat Al-Qadr (the Night of Power), the reward for such a small action will be multiplied
No doubt, a good deed in Laylat Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months’ worth of good deeds because Allah, the Most High, said:
{Laylat al-Qadr is better than a thousand months} [97:03]
However the Sunnah of the Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) is that a person should strive his utmost in the last ten days by praying night Prayers, reciting [the Qur’an], Dhikr, Du’aa and devoting one’s self to I’tikaaf.
So the Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) did not encourage people to do small good deeds thinking that the reward will be multiplied by Laylat Al-Qadr. Rather he encouraged us to try out best to perform as many voluntary acts of worship as possible – and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam).
In fact these types of messages are like drugs which suppress one’s [enthusiasm] for Worship. Also, such messages are contrary to the guidance of the Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) who encouraged us to strive to do more [not to do less] as has previously been mentioned.
So let us all seize this opportunity fully, perhaps we will not be afforded such an opportunity again. Allah knows best.

التحذير من رسائل الدعوة إلى العمل القليل في العشر الأواخر

وصلتني رسالتان عبر الواتساب تقترح في ليالي العشر بعض الأعمال والأقوال السهلة اليسيرة في ليالي العشرواستشعرت فيها التثبيط عن الاجتهاد فيها وصدّق ظني اني سمعت من يقرؤها ويقول الحمدلله ليلة أتصدق بريال وليلة أقرأ الإخلاص وهكذافكتبت هذه الكلمة نصحا وتنبيها لعل الله أن ينفع بها
تنتشر بعض الرسائل هذه الأيام تقترح للمسلم عملا قليلا في العشر الاواخر كالتصدق بريال او تلاوة سورة الإخلاص او قول أحد الأذكار الموعود عليها بثواب معين بناء على أن العمل في ليلة القدر مضاعف.
ولا شك ان العمل في ليلة القدر خير من العمل في ألف شهر ليس فيها ليلة القدر كما قال تعالى
((ليلة القدر خير من الف شهر))
وسنة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم هي الاجتهاد التام في هذه العشر بالقيام والتلاوة والذكر والدعاء والتفرغ لذلك بالاعتكاف.
فلم يشرع لنا النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم التقلل من العبادة فيها بناء على مضاعفة الثواب فيها بل شرع لنا الاجتهاد فيها وبذل الوسع في نوافل الطاعة وخير الهدي هدي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم.
فهذه الرسائل ما هي إلا كالإبر المخدرة المفترة عن الطاعة
كما أنها تضاد هدي النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وما أرشد إليه بقوله وفعله صلوات الله وسلامه عليه من الاجتهاد فيها كما تقدم.
فلنحرص على اغتنامها غاية الإمكان فهي فرصة لعلها لا تتاح مرة أخرى والله أعلم.
