Verily the grave is the first station of the Aakhirah

Haani the freed slave of Uthmaan Ibn Affaan (radhiAllaahu anhu) said: “Uthmaan would stand near a grave and weep until his beard became wet, it was said to him, “Whenever Paradise is mentioned in front of you, you do not weep; and when the Fire is mentioned in front of you, you do not weep; but when the grave is mentioned in front of you, you weep.

When he was questioned regarding this, he would reply: “I heard the Messenger of Allaah (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) say:

Verily the grave is the first station of the Aakhirah (Hereafter).

So if a person finds goodness in the grave, then everything after it will be even better.

And if a person finds evil in the grave – refuge from Allaah is sought – then everything a person will face after the abode of the grave will only be more evil.

The Messenger of Allaah (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) would also say:

I have never seen anything, except the grave is more severe than it.
