Question: O noble Shaykh, concerning Ramaḍān, does backbiting (ghībah) and slandering (namīmah) render a person’s fast void in Ramaḍān?
Response: Backbiting and slandering are two major sins, however they do not render the fast void. Nevertheless, a person is burdened with much sin because they are from the kabāir (major sins), whether in Ramaḍān or other than it, but they do not render the fast void.

السؤال: بالنسبة لرمضان سماحة الشيخ، الغيبة والنميمة هل تفطر في رمضان؟ وما الأسباب المعينة على التدبر والخشوع في الصلاة؟
الجواب: الغيبة والنميمة معصيتان كبيرتان، ولكن لا تفطر الصائم، لكن عليه إثم كبير؛ لأنهما من كبائر الذنوب في رمضان أو في غيره، لكن لا تفطر الصائم.
