10 benefits of marriage

Reference: Badāi’ al-Fawā’id: Vol 3 Page 159

[In the name of Allāh, ar-Raḥmān (the most merciful), ar-Raḥīm (the bestower of mercy)]

If there was no other [benefit in marriage] except that the Prophet ﷺ will joyfully boast about the number of his Ummah. [1]

If there was no other [benefit in marriage] except that ones good deeds will not cease with death. [2]

If there was no other benefit in it except that from his offspring will be those who testify to the tawḥīd of Allāh, and the sending of his Messenger ﷺ.

If there was no other benefit in it except that it helps in controlling one’s gaze and safeguarding one private parts, thereby avoiding what Allāh, the most-high, has made ḥarām. [3]

If there was no other benefit in it except that it is a means for a woman to also protect her chastity; Allāh had made marriage a means of preserving her dignity.

If there was no other benefit in it except that through him (the husband), Allāh protects a woman; he is rewarded for fulfilling his own desire, and her; so [marriage] is an increase in his pleasure, as well as an increase in deeds added to his record.

If there was no other benefit in it except for the great reward for one’s expenditure on his wife, her clothing, her dwelling, and raising a morsel to her mouth. [4]

If there was no other benefit in it except that Islām and its people increase, which is disliked by the enemies of Islām.

If there was no other benefit in it except that marriage contains acts of ‘ibādah which cannot be attained by a person who performs nafl alone by himself.

If there was no other benefit in it except that it helps a person regulate his carnal desires, that would otherwise distract the heart from what is more beneficial for them in both their religion and worldly life. For when the heart becomes attached to desire, or is busy struggling against it, it is diverted from pursuing what is better. Whenever one’s focus is preoccupied by something, it inevitably turns away from other things.

If there was no other benefit in it except that it affords a person the opportunity to have daughters. If he is patient with them and treats them well, and so they are a shield for him from the Fire.

If there was no other benefit in it except that he is blessed with young children who pass away before reaching the age of responsibility, and by them, Allāh admits him into Paradise.

If there was no other benefit in it except that it brings the help of Allāh, [as has been narrated in] the ḥadīth attributed directly to the Prophet ﷺ:

Three people are entitled to Allāh’s help: the one who marries seeking chastity, the one who strives to pay off a contractual debt, and the one who fights in the way of Allāh. [5]
